To celebrate National Bread Week (3-9 May), we’ve rolled-up our sleeves and perfected our kneading skills, to share with you our simple chapati recipe, the perfect accompaniment to our Indian dishes.
Shopping List
You will need:
1 cup wholemeal flour
1/3 cup warm water
2 teaspoons oil
To make the dough:
Mix the water and flour together to make a dough, by hand or in a food processor. Then add the oil.
Knead it by hand for 8 minutes, as this process will make the dough slightly elastic.

For best results cover with a damp cloth and leave for 1 hour.
With this mixture you can make 12 chapatis:
You will need a griddle! To make the chapatis, sprinkle a little dry flour on to a rolling board. Place the ball of dough on this and flatten. Sprinkle a little flour on top. Roll out gently to a thin pancake about 15 cm in diameter.

Put on to a hot griddle over a high heat. When brown spots appear, turn it over, and let it cook completely. Turn it over once more so that the first side is completely done.
